Strength Training for Runners Program

Take the best first step towards reaching your running goals today. This year, resolve to build the muscle needed to cross the finish line feeling strong with expert guidance from the Center for Sports Performance and Research.

Boston is home to one of the oldest and largest marathons in the world and running for fun and exercise is something most area athletes engage in on a regular basis. But how are you running? Are you maximizing your energy expenditures, carrying your arms correctly, maintaining a consistent, optimal stride? Are you running in a way that makes you more or less prone to injury? Wherever you are at in your marathon journey, don’t wait for the weather to warm up to dedicate yourself fully to improving your runs.

At the Center for Sports Performance and Research, our Mass General Brigham researchers and strength coaches offer detailed running assessments and supervised strength training that runners can leverage to supplement their marathon training plan and mitigate their risk of sustaining running injuries.

Our experts in sports performance use state-of-the-art equipment and motion-capture technology to analyze your whole body, study your gait, posture, footstrike, speed, and more giving you a detailed, comprehensive look at how you run. Our coaches will review your results with you, identify areas that can be targeted for improvement, and develop a bespoke strength training plan that focuses on the muscle groups runners rely on for long distance running, including any trouble areas identified in the assessment.

Over three months, you’ll meet with a group of fellow runners and your coach for two hour-long training sessions each week. You’ll build muscle, improve your gait and form, and get to know other marathoners who can share the tips and tricks they’ve learned along the way.

Our program consists of:

  • Custom biomechanical running assessment
  • 24 in-person guided 60-min strength training sessions, two times per week for three months
  • 24 remote active recovery sessions
  • 10% discount on second biomechanical running assessment

Price

$2,000 ($1,650 without running assessment)
