What is a consultation?

A consultation at the Center is the initial meeting between you (the client) and one of our fitness trainers to discuss your performance goals, health and injury history, exercise preferences, and any limitations you foresee. We may recommend some performance assessments to get an accurate picture of you at the outset of our work together. These include studies in biomechanics, cognition, balance and cardiovascular fitness performed to establish a baseline. We'll also review your current exercise routine and dietary habits to identify areas for improvement.

Based on this information, we will work with you to set realistic and specific goals. Your trainer will describe their approach and recommendations, schedule assessment, training, and/or recovery sessions, and explain exactly how they will tailor a workout program to suit your needs and objectives. This meeting lays the foundation for a personalized performance improvement plan laser-focused on achieving your desired outcomes safely and effectively.

Your athletic assessment

During your scheduled athletic assessment session, one of our performance technicians will conduct multiple tests and assessments to determine your baseline and inform your training plan and goals, guiding your overall performance journey at the Center. Our technicians measure your height, weight, and grip strength, and assess your mobility, reaction time, static and dynamic symmetry, movement efficiency, and areas of injury risk. You will also take part in cognitive assessments that will measure your cognition, attention, reaction, auditory, visual, and sensorimotor skills.

Additional assessments, including VO2 max testing, a running assessment, and a baseball/softball pitching assessment, are also available at the Center for an added cost. Your technician will discuss your assessment options with you when scheduling your session.

Recovery services for athletes

During your first visit, our performance technician will show you the Center’s recovery suite, which includes two saltwater float tanks, a cryogenic cold therapy chamber, and an infrared light therapy bed.

These recovery techniques represent the latest in sports recovery science and are available to accompany your training package or on their own for any athlete looking to recover quickly and safely after a particularly intense workout, an endurance event, or even just a stressful work week.
