Mass General Brigham continues to address the impacts across our system from a nationwide shortage of IV fluid caused by damage to Baxter’s manufacturing facility following Hurricane Helene. Thanks to the extraordinary conservation and response efforts of our clinicians and staff, we remain confident in our ability to safely care for all patients who require our immediate care. As we continue to work through these challenges, Mass General Brigham will continue deferring some non-urgent, elective procedures requiring certain IV fluids. Affected patients will be contacted by their care teams and we will provide updates and work to reschedule these procedures as soon as possible. We continue to work with state and local officials, industry, and other partners in healthcare to obtain additional IV fluid supplies as the impacts of this shortage remain significant.
