Physicians Alice Kidder Bukhman, MD, MPH and Nicole Duggan, MD have been honored by the Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians (MACEP). Dr. Bukhman was awarded the MACEP Physician of the Year. This award recognizes and honors an emergency medicine physician who has made significant contributions to the advancement of emergency medicine in Massachusetts. Dr. Duggan was awarded MACEP Fellow of the Year. This award recognizes and honors an outstanding medicine fellow in Massachusetts.
Dr. Bukhman is the Director of Clinical Operations for Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital. In her role she continues to see patients, assists with the day-to-day operations of the department, oversees long-term strategic projects such as the opening of a new observation unit, the Emergency Department expansion at Faulkner Hospital, and has helped lead work to reduce use of physical restraints for behavioral health patients. Outside of MGB, she works as an advocate for prisoners’ right to medical care. Dr. Bukhman studied Human Biology at Brown University before earning her MPH in Epidemiology at Boston University. She later attended the University of California, San Francisco for medical school. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Boston Medical Center. After residency, she served as the Rwanda country director for a Columbia University program to support emergency medicine training in rural, low resource settings. She has been an attending physician in BWFH’s Emergency Department for six years.
Dr. Duggan is currently a Clinical Fellow in Emergency Ultrasound at the Harvard Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship program. Her research focuses on developing innovative applications of point-of-care ultrasound, and more broadly integrating medical devices and machine learning technology into clinical care. Most recently she has concentrated on created automated tools to facilitate both thoracic ultrasound as well as ultrasound-guided procedures that are commonly performed in acute care settings. Her academic work has earned both local and national recognition in the form of awards and grant funding. She is thrilled to be joining the faculty at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Emergency Department in July 2022.
