Mass General Brigham Announces Inaugural Heart and Vascular Leader

Mass General Brigham has announced Patrick Ellinor, MD, PhD, as the inaugural executive director for Heart and Vascular. In this role, Dr. Ellinor will lead the unification and strengthening of the divisions of cardiac surgery, vascular surgery and cardiology, to build a unified team across Mass General Brigham to drive heart and vascular care, research and education.

This is a significant milestone in Mass General Brigham’s commitment to providing the highest level of care for patients, advancing scientific discovery, and driving the future of cardiovascular education. Aligning teams across Mass General Brigham’s system of hospitals and research centers will further its integrated, patient-centered care model spanning prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Since 2016, Dr. Ellinor has served as the director of the Telemachus and Irene Demoulas Center for Cardiac Arrhythmias at Mass General Brigham. Over the last eight years, the Center has grown and developed into one of the largest arrhythmia services in the country. Since 2022, Dr. Ellinor has served as the acting chief of Cardiology and co-director of the Corrigan Minehan Heart Center. In the last two years, the division has experienced marked growth, and he has worked collaboratively with colleagues across the system to drive new initiatives in cardiac care. Dr. Ellinor is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and he was the inaugural Telemachus and Irene Demoulas Family Foundation Endowed Chair in Cardiology.
