At Mass General Brigham, our five systemwide goals are a framework to achieve our mission. The goals are designed to provide clear direction, align our efforts and help us track our shared progress.
Guided by our For Every Patient strategy, Mass General Brigham is raising the bar for quality through a unified vision for improved patient care and experience, informed by consistent measurement and driven by robust outcomes data. Our goal is to become the leading health system for quality in the country.
In the Q&A below, Tom Sequist, MD, MPH, chief medical officer, Mass General Brigham, details the work underway to achieve this goal, including our system’s transformation into a high-reliability organization focused on equity and safety.
A. Operating as one Mass General Brigham enables us to set a singular quality goal and say it out loud together. We want to become the leading health system for quality in the country. Acknowledging that is an essential first step in our journey toward achieving it. Our integration is allowing us to streamline decision-making, to be more nimble and efficient in the way we operate and to escalate and address challenges faster than we ever have before. We are doing this to benefit our patients. They can and should expect the same clinical outcomes and service excellence at every Mass General Brigham hospital or outpatient site where they receive care.
A. We all must first understand and embrace our goal for quality. Then we need to be intentional every day in every decision we make, asking, “How will this help or hinder our patient outcomes?” We should make every decision with what is best for our patients in mind.
