Visiting Our Facilities

We are committed to the safety of our patients, visitors, support persons, staff, and community. 

Mass General Brigham understands that visitors and support persons are valuable parts of your health and well-being. The safety of our patients, staff, and community is very important to us.

Inpatient areas

Mass General Brigham acute care hospitals allow two visitors at a time per patient between the hours of 9 AM to 9 PM.

There are no time restrictions for support persons to pediatric patients and patients with disabilities. Support persons are considered in addition to the two visitors.

Visiting specific patient care areas

Labor and delivery units, antenatal and postpartum areas

  • Support persons are welcome throughout the stay.
  • Visiting hours are daily from 9 AM to 9 PM.
  • Two visitors are allowed a time, in addition to the designated support persons.
  • Visitors under the age of 18 are not allowed unless a sibling to the infant and accompanied by a support person or adult.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

  • Two support persons allowed at any time. 
  • Visiting hours are daily from 9 AM to 9 PM. 
  • Two visitors are allowed at a time. 
  • Siblings of the infant are welcome to visit if accompanied by a support person. 
  • Visitors under the age of 18 need to be accompanied by a support person or adult. 

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

  • Visiting permitted 24 hours a day.
  • Two visitors are allowed at a time.
  • Visitors under the age of 18 should be pre-approved by the ICU staff/leadership.

Inpatient psychiatry units, including McLean Hospital

  • Suggested visiting hours are 2 PM to 8 PM.
  • Two visitors or support persons at a time.
  • Visiting hours may be expanded or limited by site leadership.
  • Visitors under the age of 18 need to be accompanied by a support person or adult and need to be approved by staff.

Spaulding Cambridge, Spaulding Cape Cod, and Spaulding Boston

  • 11 AM to 8 PM

Spaulding Brighton

  • Suggested visiting hours are between 11 AM to 8 PM.

Emergency Department

  • Visiting permitted 24 hours a day.
  • One visitor or support person for adult patients.
  • Two visitors or support persons for pediatric patients.
  • Visitation may be restricted during times of high volume or for care-related reasons.

Outpatient areas

Procedural areas

  • A single visitor or support person is permitted.

Ambulatory outpatient areas

  • A single visitor or support person is preferred, however up to two may be permitted.

Under some circumstances, facilities may need to restrict visits more than the above.

Visitor health

We ask visitors to postpone their visit if you are not feeling well.

Visitor expectations

  • Visitors must adhere to all applicable policies, including the Mass General Brigham Patient, Family, Visitor, and Research Participant Code of Conduct.
  • Visitors must wear appropriate attire, including shoes and shirts.
  • Visitors cannot bring any weapons to any Mass General Brigham facility or campus.
  • There is no smoking on any Mass General Brigham facility or campus. Where available, visitors may smoke in designated areas. Smoking includes all tobacco products, as well as e-cigarettes/vaping.
  • Visitors will be respectful of the privacy and health care needs of our patients.
  • Visitors are responsible for their own belongings.
  • Personal pets are not allowed to accompany visitors.
  • Visitors may not take pictures, audio recordings, or video recordings of staff or other patients, without their consent. Pictures can only include the patient and/or visitor(s) with their consent.

Visitors will not be discriminated against based on race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, marital status, citizenship, ethnicity, genetic or disease information, or any other characteristic protected by law.
