The Center for Academic Development and Enrichment is made up of:

Across these offices, the Center offers programming and support in these areas:

  • Mentorship and leadership development: The Center supports the goal of optimizing mentorship for trainees and faculty through peer mentoring, 1:1 mentoring programs, and the Mass General Brigham Healthcare Leadership Program.

  • Recruitment and retention: The Center manages programs aimed at improving recruitment and retention of trainees and faculty and will track their success. To be a global leader in healthcare, it is essential that our faculty and trainees reflect the patients we serve and offer a variety of perspectives.

  • Guidelines for departments: The Center works closely with Departmental Vice Chairs/Directors to coordinate policies, practices, procedures, and skills training across departments to ensure that all faculty and trainee members of our academic community have opportunities for career growth and success.

  • Promotions guidance and CV consultations: The Center provides support for those who need help with CVs, narratives, Chair letters, and other aspects of the Harvard Medical School promotions process.

All of our initiatives are data-driven, supported by our data analytics team, to ensure we can measure the impact of our programming. All programming, events, and leadership development opportunities enable all our trainees and faculty to realize their greatest potential and foster a workplace culture where everyone feels valued and respected.

Office for Academic Engagement and Enrichment

To be a global leader in healthcare, it is essential that our workforce reflects the patients and communities we serve and offers a variety of perspectives. This enables us to develop better solutions to our challenges and deliver higher quality care with better patient outcomes. A workforce with a broad range of skills, experiences, and perspectives is best positioned to innovate, create solutions, provide the highest quality care to all our patients, and ensure that our patients maintain trust and feel confident seeking care from our provider community.

The Office for Academic Engagement and Enrichment will focus on expanding access to opportunities for faculty and trainees to realize their greatest potential and fostering a learning and working environment where all faculty and trainees feel valued, respected, and appreciated. The office is dedicated to supporting an academically enriching, welcoming, and psychologically safe environment for faculty and trainees at Mass General Brigham’s teaching hospitals.

United Against Racism is a guiding principle in all that we do. It is our commitment to end all forms of discrimination and address the barriers that stand in the way of achieving excellent outcomes for everyone in our community. Together, we aim to make measurable, impactful, and sustainable improvements in clinical equity for our patients, along with better health outcomes for the communities we serve.

The following offices are included in the Office for Academic Engagement and Enrichment:

Mass General Brigham is a place where faculty and trainees from a range of backgrounds and perspectives can thrive. The Faculty Engagement Division is focused on expanding opportunity and access for advancement, promoting excellence in the workplace, and supporting talented and qualified faculty and trainees that represent the communities we serve. We aim to create opportunities for faculty career development by offering leadership skill development programs, and access to lectures. We also facilitate opportunities for connection between our faculty and trainees including opportunities for both groups to participate in our residency recruitment efforts.

We are focused on fostering a community where all trainees can thrive by supporting opportunities for connection and ensuring trainees feel appreciated and valued for who they are. We aim to create opportunities for trainees to build connections across departments, participate in peer mentorship, and develop leadership skills. We create these opportunities by organizing lectures on various health equity and leadership topics and career connection dinners with leaders. We also create informal spaces for connection including volunteering or community service events, or celebrations honoring heritage months, holidays, and other celebrations highlighting the richness of our workforce. We support summer programs that engage those interested in careers in research and healthcare.

This office provides resources to all faculty and trainees, with a focus on the needs of those who are working parents or caregivers of others, including individual counseling, group sessions, advice and support. The Office also advocates for policies that will ensure the members of our community thrive both at work and at home.

This office will support faculty of all ages who are making major transitions in their professional life, including retirement, partial retirement, transitioning out of a clinical role, or changing career directions. It provides advice and guidance on areas such as ascension to senior faculty (promotion to Professor, identifying leadership opportunities); how mentorship and sponsorship changes as you and your trainees grow; and transitioning from senior faculty into partial or full retirement.
